Microsoft is set to launch a redesigned OneDrive app for Windows next year, featuring a new photo gallery, a people view, and AI-powered slideshows. This update is part of a broader initiative to enhance OneDrive with additional features over the coming months.
The new OneDrive app will offer a more comprehensive experience compared to the current desktop version. It will include a full gallery view for cloud photos and a dedicated people view that identifies faces and allows users to label them.
In addition to cloud functionality, the updated OneDrive will support local photo editing, enabling users to save images on their devices or upload them to Microsoft’s cloud storage.
Microsoft is also introducing a Photos Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Premium subscribers. This feature acts as a chatbot for photos, allowing users to request specific collections or memories, which Copilot can then compile into albums.
On mobile devices, OneDrive will soon incorporate AI editing tools, allowing users to create animated styles from photos and easily remove blurry or duplicate images. A new moments tab will also be available, highlighting older photos and memories from specific dates.
Furthermore, Microsoft has updated the document-sharing process in OneDrive. The new “hero link” feature simplifies sharing by allowing users to copy a document’s URL, similar to the functionality offered by Google Docs, making it easier for others to request access to files.
